Another show is up, this time at the Common Cup Coffee Shop on Washtenaw. The opening will be on Thursday July 14th at 6pm. There are four large magnetic boards to play with my magnetic nature letters, the two lower ones are at children’s height – a child friendly art show opening! The show will run through August 29th.
Last fall I made a trip to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes with my friend Marilyn. The dunes were beautiful and I took lots of pictures of them. This alphabet is based on those images and lots of detective work. Some of the letters may need a bit of imagination:)
I have finally put my Nature Alphabet on Etsy (http://www.lailakujala.etsy.com/). I decided to make two sets – one square and one rectangle. The one thay says Nature Alphabet can be personalized to say for example “Olivia’s Alphabet.”
My first name commission:)
Z is for Zeal.
“Determine what specific goal you want to achieve. Then dedicate yourself to its attainment with unswerving singleness of purpose, the trenchant zeal of a crusader.” – Paul J. Meyer
Y is for yellow.
“Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun.” – Pablo Picasso
This letter is not very generous with words or artsy quotes. So I do what I can.
X is for Xylography – the art of engraving on wood, or of printing from such engravings. I did not know I was a xylographer!
I did find a great quote from Greek philosopher Xenophanes:
“Men create gods in their own image.”
W is for wonder.
“Awe and wonder must underlie the urgency felt by all artists – musicians, poets, dancers, painters – to sing forth the deep joy of existence.” – Carl Schmalz
